It’s time to turn our attention to the haven of the home: our bedrooms. If you’re looking for some modern bedroom design ideas that create an elevated and restful space, take your cue from these top designers and the primary palaces they’ve created.

Swap Color for Texture
An easy first step if you want to refresh your bedroom look while creating a chic sanctuary? Tone down the color and play up the texture. Stylist MJ Cripe went for a nubby wool rug, an organic rough linen for the bed and a tassled throw to really seal the deal. By keeping the colors muted and earthy, it’s easy to keep the space coheisive and the simplified palette also feels more restful.

Work in Layers
In the pink bedroom of this Palm Springs home, interior designer Michelle Boudreau used a bold geometric wallpaper to create a Modern bedroom design statement. The pattern shapes are repeated in the furniture, lighting and even the accent pillows. “I wanted to bring the clients’ vision to life with a calming, inviting vibe and layer in the interesting shapes and patterns in a cohesive way that threaded throughout the home,” she says.

Play into the Architecture
Designer Linette Dai drew upon the architectural influences of Mid Century Modern architects for this Cliff May Renovation in Long Beach. She added wood trim to the closet door as a nod to shoji screens (Japanese design was a big influence to the modernists). if you look closely, the window shades also bear a hand-made paper-inspired pattern as well. The headboard is a piece os live edge wood salvaged from a local town and the hanging pendant over the nightstand has a rope detail. All these elements play up the handmade aesthetic which pairs will with Clliff May’s original materials.

The Rules for Mixing Patterns
If you’re looking for lush and luxurious look, mix up your patterns. Interior designer Michael Norpell did an unexpected mix of patterns in his Palm Springs guest room. The modern stylized palm-leaf print of the wallpaper pairs nicely with a chenille bedspread whose dot pattern mimics a graphic element in the wallpaper. The area rug bears a vintage faded trellis pattern. The fact that it’s all tone on tone with the same blush desert pink is what makes it all work and tie together perfectly.

Modern Bedroom Design: It’s Not Just About the Bed
There’s more amenities at play in a Mid Century Modern Bedroom than just where you lay yourself down to sleep. In Randi Merel’s Little Beverly Hills vacation rental, there’s plenty of modern bedroom design interest that combines into a striking primary bedroom. Randi and her husband Allen live in the home half the year, so it’s while it’s got to make sense as a rental, they want it to be nicely appointed for themselves. A brutalist inspired dresser from West Elm sets the tone for an artful look while breezeblock repurposed in the bathroom brings the Palm Springs vibe home. An unencumbered view outside to the pool, is frankly, enough said.
