Get your tickets now — Atomic Ranch on the Road comes to Denver June 12 -14, opening 7 landmark mid-century homes across Arapahoe Acres and Arapaho Hills, the only two mid-mod enclaves in Denver on the National Historic Registry. In partnership with Mid Mod Colorado and founder Adrian Kinney, we’re excited to take you inside some of Colorado’s prime examples of Denver modernism. Walk the rooms of Edward Hawkins’ personal residence, step inside a home that has never before been open to the public, and experience what the Washington Post dubbed the crown jewel of Arapahoe Acres when it touted the allure of mid-century living in 1957.
Denver developed its own bold dialect of mid-century modernism — earthy, grounded, and unapologetically handsome. Moss rock chimneys, flagstone floors, and warm brick exteriors root these homes in the Colorado landscape while their open plans and clerestory windows lift them skyward. This weekend, 7 of the finest examples open their doors exclusively for Atomic Ranch on the Road.
Arapaho Acres and Arapaho Hills represent a defining chapter in American suburban design, shaped by the hands of gifted architects like Joseph Gerry Dion and the vision of builder Edward Hawkins.
Kick the weekend off on Friday the 12th at a Mix & Mingle at Modmood, the area’s premiere design studio and vintage dealer. Join Jickie, Adrian and the Modmood designers for drinks and light refreshments, book signing opportunities and a lively chat about mid century design and Denver modernism. You’ll leave with new mid mod friends and ideas to take to your own space! $30.
Saturday is home tour day! Six homes, a stunning garden, one unforgettable experience. Your tour begins in Arapaho Hills, where three homes reveal the quiet confidence of Denver’s mid-century vision set against the neighborhood’s tree-lined streets. Then cross into Arapahoe Acres — the crown jewel of midcentury Denver communities for three homes that represent the full range of what this extraordinary neighborhood holds. $85
Sunday join us for a Featured Home Talk & Tour at a stunningly renovated gem in the Southern Hills neighborhood known for it’s iconic 1960s ranch homes. Enjoy lite bites and coffee while you tour the home which was elegantly revived by Arc Den Studios. Then gather outside for a lively conversation hosted by Adrian Kinney featuring Atomic Ranch editor Jickie Torres and Arc Den Studio’s founders Hans Osheim and Joana Emhof. They’ll discuss Denver modernism, the history of the 1955 home and neighborhood and walk us through the design challenges and decisions that restored the mid century soul into this once remuddled house. $50.
